The role you’ll contribute:
The paralegal provides the professional support necessary for AdventHealth claims team to meet the day-to-day functions of the department. Document preparation and distribution, project management, organizational and time management skills are important to effectively complete job assignments.Outstanding communication and stress management skills are extremely important.Experience in handling highly confidential information is a vital part of their daily responsibilities. The paralegal performs all delegated duties under the general supervision of the claims team
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Serves as dedicated support for the Claims Managers in assisting with their claims handling needs.
Provides support with documenting and coding in the Risk Management Information System, including completion of mandatory fields and those necessary for MMSEA reporting.
Respond to insurance disclosure requests from plaintiff’s counsel.
Ensure proper reporting to excess carriers.
Prepare and send assignment letters to defense counsel.
Track Case Assessment Reports (CAR) and contact counsel for submission of overdue reports
Perform background and social media searches for claims where counsel is not assigned.
Obtain employment status and request insurance certificates for named defendants.
Request and follow-up on medical record status in claims where counsel is not assigned.
Prepares closing paperwork and ensures necessary closed claim reporting is completed in accordance with state laws.
Create and maintain an expert database of individual who testify in med mal claims.
Serves as first point of contact for process servers, department inquiries, or issues concerning class actions, garnishments, subpoenas, and litigation.
Effectively communicates with attorneys and/or other internal or external stakeholders regarding status of projects.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Associate’s degree and 3 years’ minimum experience in a professional role as a paralegal or related work experience OR 5 years’ experience in a professional role as a paralegal or related work experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Previous experience as a paralegal.
Bachelor’s degree
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
Paralegal certification
