Williams Parker seeks an experienced, forward-looking Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help lead the firm to higher levels of success. The firm’s new COO will understand the importance of cultivating, motivating, and supporting accomplished attorneys, other professionals, and staff to surpass our historic success, improving our client service, and expand our already considerable contributions to the community.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a spirit of collaboration and innovation combined with strategic vision, business acumen, and demonstrated leadership abilities.
The COO leads and manages the Firm’s administrative and accounting functions critical to our success and partners with the Management Committee to develop, implement, and enable the Firm to pursue its strategic objectives and business goals. One of the most important responsibilities of the COO is to motivate and support attorneys and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Management Responsibilities
Exercise sound judgment in matters regarding personnel and business operations.
Align staff functions and manage cross-functional projects to accomplish the firm’s business objectives.
Regularly evaluate all staff functions to assure efficient operations and expense management.
Work with the firm’s outside General Counsel and section heads to continually and proactively assess and mitigate organizational risk.
Foster the firm’s collegial, collaborative, and inclusive culture to expand camaraderie between staff and attorneys.
Motivate senior staff to perform at the same standard of excellence as we expect our attorneys to perform.
Hire, train, develop, and mentor strong, responsive, and accountable senior staff.
Advisory and Consulting Responsibilities
Advise the Management Committee, Section Heads, and Recruiting Partner on operational issues, industry and competitive conditions, and growth opportunities.
Participate in professional and industry groups to stay abreast of trends and changes in the industry, including developments that could affect the firm’s business objectives or market position.
Identify and manage external experts to deliver high-impact advice or to deliver high-impact programs.
Serve as an integral part of the firm’s leadership team, interacting regularly and collaboratively with and ensuring appropriate administrative support to the leadership team and practice leaders.
Facilities and Real Estate
Oversee the construction and maintenance of our new building; including signing and approving construction documents and requisitions.
Work with the Management Committee to manage the Williams Parker’s facilities, ensuring solutions and plans are in place to achieve growth while integrating mission, finance, development, and facility perspectives.
University degree in business administration, finance/accounting, or related field. Candidates will likely have backgrounds that include a JD, MBA, CPA or CLM.
At least five years of demonstrated success in general management and strategic planning, ideally in a professional services firm setting.
Experience leading, planning and managing in an entrepreneurial, client-oriented setting.
Experience leading and developing a team of functional specialists to consistently meet priorities and goals.
Experience in change management.
Ability to negotiate and execute contracts, and manage the quality of service providers and vendors.
