Responsible for planning, designing, implementing and monitoring facility-wide Risk Management and Patient Safety policies and procedures. Responsible for identification, risk evaluation and coordination of corrective action implementation related to Risk Management and Patient Safety issues.
Implements, operates and monitors the Risk Management program as required by Florida Statutes and other regulating entities.
Reports and gives advice regarding real and potential risk situations to Administration, Departments, and Committees, as appropriate. Summarizes Risk Management and Patient Safety data for appropriate evaluation and risk trend analysis.
Assists management in responding to or defending against claims, lawsuits and inquiries regarding compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
Coordinates Risk Managements programs with departments, leadership and the attorneys and functions as liaison with attorneys.
Provides Annual Risk Report to Agency for Health Care Administration.
Provides timely reporting of regulatory risk reporting (AHCA-Code15, EMTALA, etc)
Monitors all incidents for trends and loss prevention strategies.
Performs timely Root Cause Analysis on trends, never events, sentinel events, and serious events to reduce harm and loss.
Responsible for oversight and entering information into the Florida Patient Safety Organization program.
Oversees and directs the Patient Safety Program. Actively attends meetings and collaborates with departments to address any issues or concerns.
Coordinates the process for implementing and maintaining the Interdisciplinary Policy manual on the facility’s intranet.
Provides for staff recruitment, selection, training, supervision, evaluation and disciplinary actions. Consults with Human Resources, as needed, regarding correction actions.
Develops and manages departmental budget; ultimate responsibility for monitoring and supervising resources (staffing, supplies, etc.) in meeting financial goals of department(s).
Coordinates staff education and training programs to assure that staff is familiar with Risk Management and Patient Safety processes and requirements.
Attends Daily Safety Huddles when possible.
Supervision and supportive oversight for the Risk Management department staff.
Responsible as part of organization culture to meet and address patient safety issues as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate’s Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Nursing or other fields preferred.
Licensed RN by State of Florida.
Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager (CPHRM) within 6 months of assuming position.
3 to 5 years leadership experience in a healthcare organization required.
1 year of experience in Risk Management/Legal issues in a healthcare organization (public hospital setting) preferred.
Ability to greet and effectively relate to physicians, employees, patients, and the public.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to deal with pressure and complaints.
Presents oneself in a professional manner through appearance and conduct.
